EMSA Spring Assembly 2019 | 24-29th of April, Heidelberg

Between the 24th and 29th of April 2019, the Spring General Assembly of the European Medical Students’ Association (EMSA) was held in Heidelberg, Germany. Thirteen active members, from all medical schools of Greece, attended the meeting representing medical students of Greece at a European level.

EMSA represents medical students across Europe, by acting as a communication platform and organizing programs at both European and local level. Its activities gather around six pillars of action: Public Health, Medical Education, Medical Science, Medical Ethics and Human Rights, Health Policy and European Integration.

EMSA organizes two General Assemblies per year, the Spring and the Autumn Assembly. Each one of them is attended by more than 200 medical students across Europe. Each EMSA meeting is devoted to a scientific topic, on which speeches are conducted by external partners of the organization during the Symposium. During this meeting, the topic of the Symposium was Medical Mobility & Migration and included talks by representatives as well as constructive discussions on the topic.

The agenda of the General Assembly includes Plenaries, where decisions of the organization are made such as the adoption of Policy Papers or changes of internal regulations. Also, during the Spring Assembly, the election of the Executive Board for the next term takes place. HelMSIC is proud to announce that its delegate, Nikolaos C. Xifaras was nominated and elected EMSA President for the term 2019-2020.

One of the most interesting parts of the meeting is the Projects’ Fair & Twinning Market, where each EMSA faculty member organization has the opportunity to present some of the most important projects that organized last year, as well as its twinning project. For this program HelMSIC earned the 3rd prize, by organizing one of the best Twinning Projects in Europe. The Greek delegation also presented the “Medical Specialties Day” program, the online “Medicine & Research” campaign, as well as a poster on Anti-microbial Resistance which also gained the first position prize among other posters that were presented.

The meetings also include educational trainings and workshops. Participants had the opportunity to be trained on a variety of topics by external partners of the organization, with a range of knowledge on health issues, in numerous parallel workshops and trainings in subjects such as minimally invasive surgery, stem cell donation and organ transplantation policies in European countries. At the same time, participants were given the chance to aquire several soft skills as well as exchange ideas and good practices.

EMSA General Assemblies give medical students from all over Europe the opportunity to interact with each other, discuss on health issues at a European level and make important decisions about the future of the organization.

The next EMSA General Assembly will be held between the 1st and 6th of September in Athens, Parnitha! Will you be there? #owl_be_there
