General Info & Access

Larissa is the fifth most populated city in Greece and the capital of the Thessaly region. It is a principal agricultural centre and a major commercial and industrial centre in Greece. Legend has it that Achilles was born here, and that Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, died here. In recent years, the centre has been pedestrianized, making it ideal for a pleasant stroll!

In the northern outskirts of the city you can glimpse the soaring peak of Mount Olympus. Volos, a nearby coastal port city, can be reached with the train in just under an hour. Last but not least, if you are into swimming, Agiokampos, Platamon and Neoi Poroi are nearby and accessible by train or bus.

Tip: The weather of Larissa is very transitional, going from wet and quite cold during the winter (snowstorms are known for ruining many crops in the county) to very hot in summer, with temperatures over 40 ̊C often occurring.
