Overview

Twinning Project

The Twinning Project is organized by EMSA (European Medical Students’ Association) as a medical students’ mobility program with an educational and cultural character. The purpose of this project is to “couple” two Faculty Member Organizations (FMOs) of EMSA as “twins” and exchange a group of students among each other. The two organizations agree on two exchange periods and each “twin” organizes the educational and cultural program in their own country in order to host their “twin”. Each exchange period lasts 6-10 days and each group consists of 9-15 students.

Twinning Projects aims to give medical students in Europe the chance to learn about a different health and educational system, to experience another european way of living, gain new skills and medical knowledge and also develop intercultural understanding.

The Twinning Project is implemented in three stages:

Students are being selected and prepared for the procedures and “twinned” with the other FMO’s participants. Each participant from an FMO has a “twinned” participant among the others. They start contacting in order to know each other better and get familiarized before the official beginning of the visits.

These stages include the visits that happen between the two Twinned Faculties. For each exchange period, local students provide lodging, boarding, educational and cultural activities for their twins, in order to give them a multilateral view of a student’s life in their country.

Twinning in HelMSIC

HelMSIC consists of 7 Local Committees, one in each city where there is a Medical School; Alexandroupolis, Athens, Heraklion, Ioannina, Larissa, Patras, Thessaloniki are our seven different FMOs.

HelMSIC has been organizing the Twinning Project the last 8 years and each one of our FMOs has its special academic collaborations, university facilities and multicultural environment that make them unique and suitable for a fruitful cooperation with a European Medical School.

Our main goal through this project is to offer a memorable experience in Greece. By offering a high quality educational program, partnerships with the best-equipped clinics and hands-on exercise to improve practical skills, we try to achieve the acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge forour participants. There are also educational trainings organized, based on soft skills, current public health issues and socio-ethical aspects of medicine.
